Why do we keep changing tools?

Hopefully y'all can relate with this one. It is most prominent with apps that we use to organize our day/week/month/year/life.

It's quite simple. You plan out your day by creating a list, or board, or time-blocked calendar, or whatever, as long as you have it visible in front of you and then you execute everything you've set to do. Really, this, in theory, is as simple as it gets. A 5 year old could make sense of it.

Thing is, the difficulty behind the "execute it" part is hardly explainable to a 5 year old, heck, even a 30 year old.

It's funny how we never think: "Hmm, maybe it's all in my head and I just need to start ticking one item after the other" but we frequently think: "Once I start using the GTD method I'll be a productivity machine" or "If I time-block my calendar, I'll have more than enough time to tackle everything I've set myself to do". And, at least in my case, that never works. It might work for a day or two, but then I'm back at the old habit of not sticking to what I've had in mind.

Why do our brains act like that? Why can't we isolate our thoughts/feelings and just get stuff done?

Sadly, the paragraph above isn't the bridge into a solution as I'm yet to find one but if anyone has suggestions/tips/experiences, feel free to shoot me an email at doh.blog(at)proton.me

Who knows, we might become penpals.
