My blog

Are we going backwards?

I'll preface this by saying that I work in tech.

I have this feeling that everything is going backwards, in a good way, at least in my opinion.

We are moving away from big blogs, powered by powerful content management systems, with an emphasis on design, over to microblogs, such as Bear, for example.

We are moving away from carefully crafted task management apps that were built by some of the best designers in order to ensure an optimal user experience, to pen and paper.

We are moving away from our smartphones to dumbphones.

I like this movement because I think that all of the solutions I've mentioned above, were built to strike up some sort of addiction. We've lost touch with reality. With the smell and feeling of paper, with just staring at the wall while sitting.

But what I'm wondering is; is this just a trend that's hitting people who spend a significant amount of time browsing the internet, hence creating the urge to disconnect? Or is this a direction in which the world is heading to?

I don't know. I'm surrounded by like-minded people and I see a pattern but I'm completely disconnected from regular people who don't know how to use a PC for anything more than opening the news or don't know how to use their phone for anything more than calling or texting someone. Do they also have the urge to pick up a vinyl player, rather than listening music on Spotify?
